ABOUT US
OUR STORY
Dr. Riaz Ahmed Sheikh, the late founder of institutions for the deaf in various cities of Pakistan, established NC for Disables, an institute situated in rural areas of Kamoke, District Gujranwala, Punjab, Pakistan. The institute is the only one of its kind in the area, offering comprehensive rehabilitation and education services to deaf and mentally retarded children. Dr. Sheikh aimed to provide a platform for education and open new employment opportunities for people with disabilities, who have traditionally been dependent on their parents and society for their sustenance and lack self-confidence, respect, and support.
After Dr. Sheikh’s passing, his mission was continued by the organization, particularly his son Dr. Tahir Riaz Sheikh. Under his leadership, NCEDM established two projects: the Pakistan National Institute for Deaf Kamoke and the Pakistan National Vocational Training Center. The institute’s construction was made possible by Dr. Riaz Ahmed Sheikh’s strenuous and selfless efforts and the support of the Japan Embassy and the Government of Pakistan.

HISTORY
2008-2013
Our NGO has a deep-rooted dedication to empowering vulnerable communities, and this was evident in our significant achievements between 2008-2013. In 2008, we partnered with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mall to establish a Skill Development Training program for the disabled community and enabled 30 special students to receive training annually, equipping them with valuable skills and the means to achieve financial independence. Today, the program is a source of income for our NGO and has positively impacted the lives of the deaf community.
This project is a shining example of our unwavering commitment to empowering individuals and communities, and it builds on the success of our earlier projects. In 1998, we established a Vocational Training Center for people with disabilities with the support of the Japanese embassy. This project was successful and paved the way for future initiatives. Our NGO’s focus on expanding our vocational training programs has led to the addition of garment manufacturing training in 2012-13. The Punjab Welfare Trust for the Disabled provided funding, which enabled us to purchase embroidery machines for our disabled students. This income-generating training program is yet another example of our dedication to empowering communities.
Our NGO is proud to partner with like-minded organizations such as the Japanese embassy, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mall and the Punjab Welfare Trust for the Disabled. With the support of our dedicated team and generous donors, we are confident that we can continue to create meaningful impacts in the lives of those we serve. Our commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities is unwavering, and we will continue to work towards a brighter future for all.
2000
In 2000, our NGO in partnership with the Japan Embassy embarked on a project of speech development, with the aim of providing help for deaf, dumb, and mentally challenged children to improve their communication skills and develop the ability to express themselves effectively, thereby enhancing their quality of life and facilitating their integration into society.
We are proud to report that the project has been running smoothly and remains functional to this day, allowing us to continue providing critical services to the deaf community and generating income for our NGO. We are grateful to our partners and supporters who have made this project possible and look forward to continuing our mission of empowering the disabled community through education and vocational training.
1998
In 1998, our NGO took on the project of establishing a vocational training center for disabled individuals. With the support of Japan embassy as a partner, the project aimed to benefit 25 students per year by providing them with skills training to enhance their employability. The outcome of the project was not just the provision of vocational training but also income generation for the NGO through the services provided by the trained individuals.
Today, the vocational training center is functional and has successfully contributed to the economic empowerment of disabled individuals. Our NGO remains committed to the cause of providing opportunities for disadvantaged and marginalized communities through such impactful projects.
1997
In 1997, our NGO took on two significant projects to provide access to education and skill development for the disadvantaged community. The first project was the construction of a hostel for 20 special students, This project was made possible through a partnership with the National Zakat Foundation. The hostel was designed to cater to the needs of special students, providing a secure and comfortable living environment equipped with essential amenities.
The second project was the Establishing of a Computer Training lab for 20 special students, in the partnership with Ministry of Women’s Development. and presently functional, although it serves no commercial purpose. The outcome of the project was not just the provision of vocational training but also income generation for the NGO through the services provided by the trained individuals.
We believe that providing access to education and skill development opportunities for the disables is essential for the development of communities, and we remain committed to continuing this work for the betterment of society. With the successful implementation of these projects, we were able to create a positive impact on the lives of many students who would have otherwise been left without proper schooling or training. Our NGO will continue to strive towards ensuring a better future for disadvantaged communities through similar initiatives.
1992
In 1992, our NGO took on the project of establishing a school in the rural area of Kamoke to cater to the educational needs of 250 deaf and Disable students every year. Partnering with the Japan Embassy, the project was successfully funded, and its outcome was the provision of education to a significant number of students, leading to the betterment of the disabled community by enhancing their literacy and educational levels.
This project was a testament to our NGO’s commitment to empowering disadvantaged communities by providing them with access to education. With the support of our partners, we were able to positively impact the lives of many students who would have otherwise been left without proper schooling, and we remain committed to continuing this work for the betterment of society.
